Bangkok is not dangerous for Cage
    9-22-06
Oscar winner Nicolas Cage is still filming his new movie in Bangkok despite the military coup in Thailand, a film crew said on Friday.

He dismissed a news report that Cage already boarded a private jet to Hong Kong upon learning of the coup on Tuesday night. "It is true that a private jet is prepared in case of emergency. But from our estimation, it would be no danger for Cage and the production team. Cage is still with us. Our work is conducted at an outer ring of Bangkok and the security is fine," he said.

Sina.com, a Chinese website, earlier reported that when news of the coup on Tuesday night reached the crew, Cage was rushed back to his hotel. Crew members remained on the set to keep an eye on prop guns until Cage persuaded the producer to send everyone home. Hong Kong-born twin brothers Danny and Oxide Pang are remaking their 1999 film, "Bangkok Dangerous."

Sina.com said filming was scheduled to be completed next month, but may be delayed by the coup, which saw the military overthrow of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Cage, 42, won a best-actor Oscar for 1995's "Leaving Las Vegas." His screen credits also include "Adaptation," "World Trade Center" and "Matchstick Men."

    CAGE ORDERS CASTLE CLEAR OUT
    9-21-06
NICOLAS CAGE is making sure he doesn't inherit the remnants of the past when he moves into his new German castle - he's asked the former owner to auction off his family heirlooms.

Cage has authorised an auction of all the fixtures and fittings in the 500 year old Bavarian Castle Neidstein, which he bought for $2.3 million (£1.2 million) earlier this year. The sale, which took place yesterday (20SEP06), raised almost $500,000 (£275,000) for the castle's former owner ALEXANDER CON BRAND.

Among the 291 items on sale were a 16th century tapestry of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, which sold for 30,000 Euros ($36,000/£20,000); two large 18th century oil paintings of the castle itself, which sold for 11,000 Euros ($13,500/£7,500), an 18th Century dresser and a number of baroque sculptures.

Cage wanted the derelict 28-room castle emptied so he can begin a massive renovation, to turn it into a spectacular summer retreat. He needs to replace draughty windows, a leaky roof, dangerous electrics and sanitary facilities that haven't been updated since the 1960s.

CAGE STUNNED BY WORLD TRADE CENTER GIFT
NICOLAS CAGE was left stunned at the premiere of his hard-hitting new film WORLD TRADE CENTER when the firefighter he portrayed on screen handed him a special 9/11 memento. Terrorist attack survivor JOHN MCLOUGHLIN was so touched by the actor's performance in the OLIVER STONE movie, he gave Cage a cross made from steel salvaged from the rubble of the Twin Towers. Cage put his hand to his chest and gasped as he realised what he was being given by the hero he plays in the film.

STONE TO DONATE 9/11 MOVIE PROFITS
Director OLIVER STONE will donate 10 per cent of new movie WORLD TRADE CENTER's first five-day profits to 9/11 charities. The controversial movie, which stars NICOLAS CAGE, tells the story of the last two people found alive in the rubble of New York City's collapsed Twin Towers in 2001.

Half of the money raised will be given to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, which is funding a $500 million (GBP270 million) memorial on Manhattan site of the terrorist attack. After families of 9/11 victims expressed concerns over his film project, Stone promised sensitivity and will split the remaining five per cent of profits between three charities:

Tuesday's Children, which helps youngsters who lost a parent in the tragedy; the Tribute WTC Visitor Center, due to open this summer (06); and the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund. World Trade Center Memorial Foundation president JOSEPH DANIELS says, "It's our sacred obligation to remember the innocent victims and honour the sacrifice of the many brave individuals who gave their lives in the September 11 attacks. "This contribution will help ensure that the memory of those heroes lives on through the World Trade Center Memorial." World Trade Center opens in America on 9 August (06).

    Hollywood superstars
including MERYL STREEP, SHARON STONE, NICOLAS CAGE, SCARLETT JOHANSSON and director OLIVER STONE will bring glamour to next month's (AUG06) Venice Film Festival in Italy. The stars will be attending the premieres of their new movies.

CAGE DONATES $2 MILLION TO AMNESTY
Hollywood star NICOLAS CAGE has donated $2 million (GBP1.1 million) to set up a fund for former child soldiers. Human rights charity Amnesty International said the money will be used to offer rehabilitation shelters, medical services and psychological and reintegration services to some of the 300,000 youngsters forced to fight in conflicts across the world.

Amnesty USA's executive director LARRY COX enthuses, "Nicolas has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the horrors faced by child soldiers and other human rights tragedies. "We commend his efforts and appreciate his generosity." In a video statement, Cage says, "Think about the nine months it took for your child to be born; think about all the care you put into teaching him how to cross the street and look both ways or to read a book or to simply have good manners. "Then imagine a warlord dropping a gun into his hand and forcing him to kill someone."

Cage swaps Malibu for own desert island
The latest recruit to the celebrity island owners club is Nicolas Cage, who bought a 16ha undeveloped island in the Bahamas for $3-million this month. The actor snapped up the island, part of the 365-island Exuma archipelago, after selling his home in Malibu for $10-million last year. Should the star of Face/Off and Wild at Heart miss the company of other celebrities he only has to call on the neighbours. The country music stars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw own a nearby island.

    Underdog seeking a voice"
The Boston Herald speculates on casting for Disney's upcoming Underdog, a live-action update to the popular '60s animated series. Set to open in theaters on August 3, 2007, the film's title character will be played by a real dog, provided with a computer generated mouth. Rumor has it that Nicolas Cage was offered to voice Underdog but declined the role. Hence, word now arrives that the two stars currently in running for the title part are none than other Steve Martin and Dane Cook. Jim Belushi is also linked to Underdog, though his role remains unknown at this time.

    Eleanor For Sale at The Auto Collections;
Muscle Mustang Starred in 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' Movie - Movie muscle Mustang Eleanor, driven by Nicholas Cage in the 2000 action hit "Gone in Sixty Seconds," is for sale at The Auto Collections at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. (Photo: Business Wire)

Eleanor has returned to The Auto Collections at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino. The 1967 Mustang GT500 stole the show in "Gone in Sixty Seconds," the 2000 action hit starring Nicolas Cage. The popular pony car is actually one of 11 built for the movie. Of those, two were destroyed in the climactic bridge jump and junkyard crusher scenes. Because certain cars were needed to do different maneuvers in the film, no two Eleanors were alike.

All the Eleanors only acted the role of being Shelbys while really they were modified Mustang fastbacks. And, although in "Gone" the car is supposed to be a four-on-the-floor, most of the Eleanors were automatics -- because it's easier to act and do stunts when you don't have to manually shift gears. The Mustang muscle magnet will remain on display between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until it's sold. Eleanor was previously on display in June 2003 and remains one of the all-time most crowd-pleasing attractions in The Auto Collections.

The Auto Collections is the world's largest classic car lot with $100 million worth of inventory on display and for sale. It includes antique, muscle, famous, infamous and historically significant vehicles. Open daily, 9:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $6.95 for adults, $3 for seniors and children 5-12 and children under 5 are free. The Imperial Palace is home to the award-winning tribute show "Legends In Concert" and the Dealertainers(TM), celebrity impersonators who deal blackjack. Imperial Palace is the most central stop on the Las Vegas Monorail. In addition, the resort is famous for "Five-Star-Friendly Service" and includes a race and sports book, 2,640 rooms and suites, world-class gaming and amenities, a seasonal poolside luau, 40,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, 10 specialty restaurants, 10 bars and lounges, state-of-the-art spa and fitness center, business center, concierge service, medical center, chapel and reception facilities.

    Nic Heads To Glastonbury
You could be forgiven for thinking that the gold-lined streets of Tinseltown must be fairly empty. Why? Because half of those A-listers are making a move to Ol' Blighty.

There's Angelina and Brad with their pad in Buckinghamshire, Madonna with her big house in Wiltshire, Gwyneth with her town house in north London and now one more US star is buying a British maison.

Nicolas Cage is hunting for a hideaway home in the West Country with his wife Alice. He's viewed some country estates near Glastonbury, Somerset and has already made himself popular with the locals.

An estate agency who dealt with him said: "He was very polite. It was a pleasure helping him." He also had time to sign autographs and a petition to save a 14th-century oak. Bless. A local bookseller, who had the pleasure of serving Nic, said: "He was like you see him in the movies - larger than life in every way but a very nice man indeed."
