Hog-wild Nicholas CageMOTORCYCLE aficionado Nicolas Cage paid a visit to Orange County Choppers in Montgomery, N.Y. - where TV's "American Chopper" is filmed - to talk to the show's stars, Paul Teutul Sr. and his sons Paulie and Mikey, about building him a custom chopper. Cage dropped by with former Port Authority cop John McLaughlin, who is portrayed by Cage in Oliver Stone's untitled 9/11 movie. The film details the story of McLaughlin and his partner William J. Jimeno, the last two survivors rescued from the rubble of the World Trade Center. Look for Cage to be riding one hell of a hog when he stars in "Ghost Rider," the screen adaptation of the motorcyle-riding comic book antihero.

CAGE BELIEVES ACTING CAN REFORM CRIMINALS06/10/2005Hollywood star NICOLAS CAGE wants to visit prisons to teach criminals how to act. FACE/OFF star Cage believes people who use their anger in negative ways could use acting skills release their frustration.
The 41-year-old tells British film magazine Empire, "One day I would love to go to a prison and maybe try to teach convicts to act. "I believe that if I could get to those youngsters when they are at a juvenile age and give them a place to express themselves, in a play or in a video, they could get their anger out there, instead of in a wrong direction.
"Art can help you, I believe. Art is like a medicine. In my own case, I was a young man, I was 16 and I was angry. I don't know why and I don't want to get into that. But acting got that out, and I'd like to give that chance to others."

Nicolas Cage to produce the Dresden Files... for Sci-Fi; DS9 Wolfe connection Reported at TGL by Chris Howell From Sci-Fi Wire: Nicolas Cage is set to executive-produce The Dresden Files, an original two-hour back-door pilot scheduled to air next summer on SCI FI Channel, the network announced. The project, produced by Lions Gate Television in association with Cage's Saturn Films, will be Cage's first foray into television. Based on a series of novels by Jim Butcher, the pilot, written by Hans Beimler (Profiler) and Robert Wolfe (The 4400, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), tells the story of Harry Dresden, a Chicago-based private detective and the only wizard listed in the city's yellow pages. Where others see typical crimes of assault, kidnapping and murder, Harry sees otherworldly forces at work. Whether consulting for the police on inexplicable crimes or following his own cases, Dresden does battle with the forces of darkness, always maintaining a wry sense of humor and a unique perspective on our world.
Cage is the latest in a growing list of Hollywood elite to join forces with SCI FI. This December, the Channel will premiere The Triangle, executive-produced by Bryan Singer and Dean Devlin. SCI FI is also currently in development on projects with Steven Spielberg (Nine Lives), Martin Scorsese (The Twelve) and Frank Darabont (The Thing).
`ROBIN HOOD' CAGE MASTERS THE BOW + ARROWNICOLAS CAGE has developed a passion for archery after discovering he's a bow-and-arrow natural while preparing for his new movie THE WEATHER MAN. The movie star took his first archery lessons so he'd look authentic as a TV weather man with a love for the ancient art - and he discovered he has a natural talent for the sport.
He says, "There aren't too many things that I will come out and say I'm a natural at and when I started doing archery, that was the first time I really found something, besides acting, that I thought, `Maybe I can do this.' "The archery in the movie was mine. I did all that. I'm happy to say that. I really enjoyed it. I'd like to continue doing it when I get some time." Cage isn't the only movie star who has discovered a natural talent for archery - THELMA + LOUISE star GEENA DAVIS was once ranked one of America's top 20 female archers after mastering the sport a decade ago.

Cage's going quirky9-23-05Given Nicolas Cage's resume, it's easy to forgive the critically acclaimed and commercially successful actor for taking some time away from his career. In the past two years, Cage has appeared in two films - count 'em, two. And the most recent of those was National Treasure, one you wouldn't expect to find listed on the same star's filmography as Leaving Las Vegas and Bringing Out the Dead. Cage is calling from Los Angeles on this northern summer day to talk about his latest role in Lord of War, a film more suited to his unique acting skills. Director-writer Andrew Niccol based the story of international arms dealer Yuri Orlov - Cage's character - on assorted shady characters from news accounts during the past couple of decades. Much like previous roles Cage has taken on, such as H I McDonnough in Raising Arizona, Orlov isn't a one-dimensional individual.
"I'd never seen a character like that before in a script, and I became interested in playing a man whose job was fundamentally unethical - call it what you will, evil, wrong - but, in his manner, an affable, charming man," Cage said. "I always thought of the devil being a very nice guy. In order for him to do the work that he needs to do, he wouldn't come at you with the horns and the tail. He'd come at you with the charm and grace of a very kind person, so that was the paradox of the role that I was attracted to." Indeed the role of Orlov requires some nifty feats of derring-do from the actor. It blends comedy, drama and political commentary and serves as a scathing indictment of the arms and foreign policies of the United States government. In short, it's the perfect Cage vehicle.
"I think that I'm more prone to movies that deal with dramatic subject matter in a funny way. I've always liked funny characters in dramatic situations," he said. "I think it's ...part of my own pathos in life as me, so I don't really overanalyse or contemplate too much about it. I just let the jazz, if you will, happen, and it pretty much sort of works itself out." It works itself out well in Lord of War because he has the perfect perspective on who Orlov is as a husband, father, loving son and dealer in death. "I think that it's that sense of being good at something ... it was the perfect match. He wasn't good at anything else, and this is something that he could really do and do well. That was more a motivating factor than even the money he was making," he said of his character's arms dealing. "Here's something that whatever it might be, as bloody as it might be, he's the best at it. Well, anyone who's the best in any field is fascinating to watch."
Mention that Orlov is just another in a long line of quirky roles that Cage played and he laughs at the thought. "Yeah, I first started hearing quirky in '82," he said. "But that's OK. It's actually better than being conventional." Those are the types of roles he feels comfortable doing. Even with the mainstream ones, he's managed to add a tic or two. "I definitely feel that I'm doing something far more interesting for myself, and hopefully for the audience, if I'm not getting too comfortable with the work. I'm a big believer in trying to step outside the box and not rest on one's laurels, so to speak," he said. "I'd rather take a left turn whenever possible and maybe fall on my face or maybe come up with something really fresh. ...That's bound to make me and critics and audiences at times a little bit uncomfortable because it's hopefully new or unknown."
He brought that sense of freshness to last year's role as Benjamin Franklin Gates in National Treasure, a part his fans might consider rather conventional. He doesn't see it that way. "I think that it's nice to do the Ben Gates character because it's a nice reminder that I still function in a normal society. That's cool. There's a tension to it as well. Although I think that Ben Gates had his little - and I'll use the word - quirks as well, because he was really into history and was considered a kind of family nut because the whole family was looking for treasure that everyone else thought didn't exist. "I'm interested in behavior. I'm interested in exploring human behavior as an actor. Consequently the behaviour I find most interesting is the one that's most exotic," he continued. "Having said that, I'm currently interested in trying to find what is interesting about the mundane ...I think that if you put anything under the right lens at the right magnification, you're going to find something interesting to look at."
He must have found something interesting in Gates because there are talks of a sequel to Treasure; it would be his first. In the meantime, he's got a full slate of movies he's acting in and producing. Among them is one about two firefighters working at the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001, slated to be directed by Oliver Stone. He didn't hesitate in attaching his name to the project. "No, I would say so if I thought that the script was in any way cashing in or exploitative," he said emphatically. "Then I would have turned away from it. But when I read it, it was such a positive human story that I thought it needed to be told because it had the right spirit and mind."
Does he think it's too soon to explore the subject just a scant four years after 9-11? He said: "Yeah, I've thought about that, but I do believe they're trying to treat this almost like Playhouse 90 (a critically lauded dramatic series that ran during the late 1950s and '60s). It's being dealt with in a most sensitive manner and it's not being done in any sort of gratuitous way. Everyone is taking an enormous pay cut and it's really being done for the right reasons."

Walker says, "You get your body fit and ready to do what you need to do. It's the thing you do when you have any project. "When you're in front of the camera, people are always looking at you, but he's got a body of iron underneath there."

I'm assuming that they're probably old friends, what with their very public and convivial embrace of the Good Life, but they're also new neighbors.
Goodman recently bought Goth rocker Trent Reznor's old house in the Garden District and Cage recently re-established his New Orleans connections by buying a Prytania Street mansion around the corner. Going to Las Vegas6-27-05Oscar winner Nicolas Cage enjoyed a festive night out with his pregnant wife Alice and about 40 of his closest friends and family, including his uncle, director Francis Ford Coppola, Dennis Hopper, Gina Gershon and rocker Rob Zombie, after receiving the Half-Life Award at the CineVegas Film Festival in Sin City recently. Cage and his posse sat in a private room at Nine Steakhouse at the Palms Casino, where they feasted on steak and truffle gnocchi.
Despite the fact that every five minutes or so fans would arrive at the door of his dining room, Cage (whose movie Leaving Las Vegas was screened at the fest) took pictures and signed autographs. "He was very friendly to everyone, even though he was constantly interrupted," a source tells us. But when the actor wasn't chatting up fans, he was happily hanging with his wife. The couple – who announced they were expecting a baby in February – will celebrate their one-year anniversary July 30.

Cine Vegas baby!6-5-05This year's festival will celebrate the bond between Tinseltown and Glitter Gulch with an array of films, tributes and parties.
The darker side of Vegas will be represented by Half-Life Award honoree Nicolas Cage, who will be on hand June 16 for a Q&A session followed by a screening of 1995's "Leaving Las Vegas," which earned him a best actor Oscar for his performance as a writer who comes to town to drink himself to death.
"I think he may be in more Las Vegas-based movies than any other actor," says Greenspun, noting that Cage also has starred in 1992's "Honeymoon in Vegas" and 1997's "Con Air," in which his character lands an airplane on the Strip. "He loves Las Vegas, from what we can tell. We understand he's coming in for three or four days -- we find that happens. Last year, honorees that were going to come in for one day ended up staying for practically a week because (CineVegas is) fun -- it's like a movable party with great movies."

Nicolas Cage Sells Home3-6-05Report: Nicholas Cage's Malibu Home Sells For $10 Million LOS ANGELES -- Actor Nicolas Cage has sold his Malibu home for about $10 million, but he still has homes in Bel-Air and New Orleans, it was reported on Sunday. The Oscar-winning actor bought his two-bedroom Malibu home overlooking a pool and the ocean in 1997 for about $3.6 million, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Cage, who had remodeled the beach house built in 1973, had been renting it for the past year and sold it to the tenants, Ruth Ryon reported in her weekly "Hot Property" column. The 41-year-old actor, who won a best actor Oscar for his role as suicidal alcoholic in the 1995 movie "Leaving Las Vegas," appears in "The Weather Man," which is due out in April. Cage married to Alice Kim. The couple are expecting their first child, according to the paper.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony also have a new home -- in Bel-Air. The couple bought the five-bedroom Tuscan-style villa on less than an acre for $6.4 million, The Times reported. The 7,300-square-foot home built in 1941 has features a guesthouse/studio, pool and formal gardens. Lopez and Anthony, who married in June, also have homes in Miami and New York. In October, Lopez sold her Beverly Hills home, complete with furnishings, for about $12.5 million.
The longtime Bel-Air home of the late actors Jim Backus -- Thurston Howell III from "Gillian's Island" -- and wife Henny is on the market for $2.75 million, the paper reported. Backus died in 1989 at age 76, and Henny, who played Cora Dithers in the 1960s sitcom "Blondie," died in December at age 93. The traditional, three-bedroom home built in 1933 covers about 3,400 square feet and features French doors that open to a flagstone patio and park-like grounds, including a pool. Bobbie Ross at Prudential John Aaroe, Beverly Hills, has the listing.

Drum diners get Cage1-17-05Nicolas Cage wore a striking maroon suit and tried, unsuccessfully, to hide in the Flower Drum restaurant. HOLLYWOOD movie star Nicolas Cage and his 20-year-old wife, Alice Kim, dined at the Flower Drum last Saturday night.
Eyewitnesses told The Eye that the couple were with two bodyguards, and dined with fellow American actor Sam Elliott, who is also in the movie Ghost Rider. Also dining at Flower Drum on Saturday night were Bert, Patti and Lauren Newton, and Lauren's boyfriend, Matt Welsh. After the meal at Flower Drum, the couple went across to hip bar Ding Dong for a drink.
That is where Cage fan Sarjeet Sandhu noticed him and got a quick photo. Sarjeet said he was a warm and friendly man. One witness at the restaurant said Cage was in a striking maroon suit and tried hard not to draw attention to himself.
"Mr Cage was seated in the back, far corner of the restaurant dining with some friends and his lovely wife, and it was amazing to see people's sudden urge to constantly attend the amenities that were conveniently situated in that general direction," the witness said. "He tried to not draw any attention himself, but alas all efforts were wasted as his presence caused quite a buzz of excitement throughout the restaurant and security was on definite full alert."

CAGE LOST VOICE AFTER KARAOKE NIGHT2-3-05Actor NICOLAS CAGE forced NATIONAL TREASURE film-makers to alter plans when he lost his voice after a raucous night of karaoke. But his penchant to "scream" along to songs forced studio bosses to reschedule crucial voice-over sessions when Cage arrived at work unable to speak. Cage says, "It's my way to de-stress. My favourites are classics like MY WAY and I do it SEX PISTOLS-style. I like to scream the songs out instead of singing.
"When we were filming National Treasure I lost my voice after a night out so I had to dub the scenes later."

Forman bets on Cage-led 'Slim' biopic1-24-05Nicolas Cage By Liza Foreman Milos Forman and Nicolas Cage are betting on a feature film about the larger-than-life gambler Amarillo Slim Preston.
Screenwriters Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson, who worked on the biopics "Ali" and "Nixon," will adapt Preston's memoir "Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People: The Memoirs of the Greatest Gambler Who Ever Lived." The project would mark Forman's first directorial outing since 1999's "Man on the Moon."
Although formal commitments have not yet been put on paper, Cage has been developing the project -- which he will star in and also produce with his Saturn Films partner Norm Golightly -- for more than a year. "Milos, Steve and Chris are nothing less than brilliant in bringing larger-than-life characters to the screen, and no one is larger than life than Amarillo Slim," Golightly said.
Producer Braxton Pope originally proposed the project to Saturn director of development Seth Schur. Pope and Schur will be involved in the project in a production capacity along with Frank Scatoni and Greg Dinkin, both of Venture Literary. Dinkin also co-wrote the memoir. "Amarillo Slim is an intrinsically American rebel and gambling outlaw of a stripe that doesn't exist anymore," Pope said. "His memoir will be the foundation for a great film that taps into the popularity of poker but also, on a larger scale, expresses a unique approach to life."
Amarillo Slim, who has been described as "the most famous poker player ever," was born in 1928 in Arkansas. His many claims to fame include winning the World Series of Poker in 1972 as well as a $2 million bet from Larry Flynt. He is best known for making crazy "propositional" bets, including using a broom handle to play one-pocket pool with billiards legend Minnesota Fats, using a carpenter's hammer to play golf with stunt motorcyclist Evel Knievel and using an iron skillet to play pingpong with tennis player Bobby Riggs. Cage's credits include "National Treasure." His upcoming films are "The Weather Man" and "Lord of War." He also has committed to star in the Marvel Comics adaptation "Ghost Rider" for Columbia Pictures.
Forman's credits include "Amadeus," "The People vs. Larry Flynt," "Man on the Moon," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Valmont." Cage, Wilkinson and Rivele are repped by CAA. Forman is repped by Robert Lantz.
